Employability in Canada:
Briefing to the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development, and the status of Persons with Disabilities

CLBC Chief Executive Officer Shirley Seward appears before House committee

The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities requested the expertise of the Canadian Labour and Business Centre as it undertakes a study on employability issues in Canada. This study will cover a range of subjects including the mobility of workers, seasonal workers, older workers, skills shortages, workplace literacy and the recognition of foreign credentials. The Committee has begun holding hearings in Ottawa and will meet Canadians across the country. In the fall of 2006, the Committee expects to hold public hearings in St. John’s, Halifax, Montreal and Toronto as well as in Vancouver, Calgary and Saskatoon.

Ms. Seward was among a group of expert witnesses who provided the committee with an overview of Canada's labour market challenges.   Click here for her speaking notes.
